AJFAN FOR HEALTH: RECIPE - HEALTHY DATE BARS

We Introduce Ajfan for Health- Healthy Recipes for healthy Living.

METHOD

Pit the dates and soak them in boiling water for 20 minutes. Use 250 g / 9 oz of dates if you want to use date paste (rather than maple syrup) to sweeten the chocolate layer too. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 150° C / 300° F. Place drained dates in a food processor, together with vanilla essence and tahini and process until smooth. Add 30 ml / 2 tbsp of boiling water to keep the machine going without getting jammed. Process for 5 minutes, until super smooth and a thick paste forms. If using dates for the chocolate layer, save ¼ cup of the paste for later.Stir the date / tahini mixture through the nuts and seeds mixture, ensuring it is evenly distributed throughout. You may need to use your hands to do this as the paste is thick.Spread the mixture in the paper-lined baking tin. Press the mixture down really well so that there are no gaps / air pockets and the bars hold together well. Use a piece of baking paper with a flat-bottomed glass on top to be able to pack the mixture better. Bake for about 30-40 minutes, they should be browned, no longer super soft / raw to the touch. Take out of the oven and compress the mixture again using the upside down glass trick. Then weigh it down with something heavy while the mixture is cooling down. Allow it to cool down completely before cutting or applying the topping.Melt coconut oil on a low heat, stir through cocoa powder and maple syrup Spread the chocolate layer on the cool bars, sprinkle with sesame seeds and salt flakes and refrigerate until the topping has set.

WHAT NOT TO MISS WHILE YOU ARE DIETING

There’s a common misconception that while you are dieting you must skip meals and avoid many foods. This is completely wrong. Such a form of dieting is called a Fad Diet, which may deliver you the results for a short period of time, but in the long run you might feel your health depreciating. Following a fad diet may result in lack of vitamins and other supplements in your body and give you a weak physical appearance. In addition to this you may also face other health issues like weak muscles, brittle nails and teeth, lackluster hair, discolored face etc. Don’t want to miss out on the joy of eating while dieting? Let’s find out how you must follow a balanced diet.

  • DO NOT Skip meals
  • Every single meal is important for your health. Breakfast is known to be the most important meal of the day. Why shouldn’t you miss your meal? Have you ever thought about it? When you skip breakfast, you may feel bloating, lowering of blood sugar levels, headache etc and also you might be behind your nutrient levels. It’s better to have a good and fulfilling breakfast before you run to school or work. Have a wholesome breakfast so that you can stay energized throughout the day.

    1. Eat fruit and Juice vegetables

This is a lesser known fact. You must eat your fruit and juice your vegetables for the best results. Also include a fruit of your choice in your daily diet. Also, make sure not to eat the same fruit every day because one, you might get bored eating the same fruit, and two, some fruits like mango and papaya are high in sugar, so eating the same fruit might not be a good idea.

  • A wheaty diet
  • Many people have a misconception that if you avoid rice and eat a lot of wheat containing foods, then it will help in your weight management programs. But many don't know that both rice and wheat contain almost the same amount of calories. One serving of wheat gives you 132 calories while the same amount of rice gives you 130 calories. Both of them are high in calories. What matters is in what quantity you eat. You must not overeat thinking that wheat is better than rice. Also wheat contains gluten which might not be good for your gut.

  • Avoiding Fats
  • There are two types of fat- Good Fat and Bad Fat. The difference between them is that good fats improve your heart health while bad fats reduce your heart health. Some of the foods that contain good fats are olive oil, flaxseed, raw nuts etc. It’s recommended that you include these kinds of good fats in your diet for a better healthy routine. Avoid foods that contain bad fats like pastries, cakes, processed meats etc. If you really love having rice, then you should include that in your diet in moderation. This way you won’t have to skip your favorite dishes.

  •  Skipping your favorite foods.
  • It's fine to avoid foods such as pizzas, ice cream, cakes, and fried foods if they are your favorites, but it's not necessary to avoid healthy foods if you consume them in moderate amounts. Some of them might like drinking milk, having butter, chicken, etc. But you might be afraid to consume it thinking about the calorie content. But little do you know that you can safely consume all of these, if you plan out your diet and include them in moderate quantities.

    1. Do not miss Proteins

As you all know proteins are the building blocks of our body. This is essential for building and repairing muscles, and can be found in foods such as lean meats, eggs, and legumes. It’s important to include the right amount of protein in your diet because consuming enough protein can help maintain muscle mass, which is important for overall health and fitness. Protein is needed for the production of antibodies and other immune cells, which help to protect the body against infection and disease.

So, these are some of the things you mustn't miss out on while you are dieting. Another thing must be kept in mind while dieting. That is Snacking. Snacking keeps you fuller for longer time and you won’t overeat your next meal if you do snacking in the right amount. If you are looking for some best snacking items, then you can go visit your nearest Ajfan store or buy our products online. Many people have misconceptions about the consumption of nuts. How should they be consumed, and in what quantities? People are confused about healthy eating. Healthy eating doesn’t mean you can eat a lot just because it's healthy. Nuts should be consumed in limited quantities, and nuts can be combined with other foods to enhance the taste.       L-arginine is also an element found in nuts and they are known to prevent clogged arteries and thus prevent heart ailments. L-arginine helps to ease the arteries and they reduce blood pressure.

How much nuts should you consume?

Nuts are a powerhouse to many nutritional elements. That doesn’t mean you can have it as and when you like it. You must consume nuts in moderation to get the best results. Kids should consume nuts as per the requirement of their age. You can consult your pediatrician and know how much is needed for your kid as per their age, height and weight. For an adult, it's recommended to consume on an average 4 to 6 (numbers) nuts per day. This can differ according to the nuts chosen. If you are consuming almonds, then you can consume about 10 to 12 soaked nuts per day. If you are consuming cashews, then you can consume about 5 to 6 per day, 3 to 4 numbers of walnuts etc.  When you consume nuts, choose those nuts that are unsalted and unsweetened. 8 Common Nutrition and Healthy Eating Myths Busted!

In recent years, health and nutrition has been the talk of the town. The number of people opting for healthy and nutritious food is increasing day by day. Every nook and corner you can see a shop that sells nutritious food products, or products that help you enhance your fitness. Now there are sugar free, organic, gluten free, natural food products available in the market. Many fitness enthusiasts and people who have a taste for fitness opt for natural peanut butter without added sugar than a peanut butter which has added sugars. People are shrouded with so much nutritional information that it has become difficult to separate facts from myths. Let’s see the top 10 myths related to nutrition busted!

  • Healthy Eating means Expensive
  • This one is the most common myth that is still not busted. Many still think that this is true and they keep avoiding healthy options. You do not have to go for a food product in the market simply because it says it is healthy. You can look around your local store and find healthy and delicious dates, seeds, cereals, pulses, nuts etc. It's just that you need to plan your diet cycle everyday to avoid over-expense. Instead of buying everything labeled as healthy, chart out the shopping list and only buy the things that you need for that particular week.

  • Eliminate carbs to lose weight
  • Carbohydrates are essential for building strength of the muscles and it gives energy to our body. It's mandatory that we take some form of carbohydrate to retain the strength and build macromolecules. What if we don’t eat carbs? The energy level in our body drops and we might feel tired and exhausted. So what is recommended? Switch to a low carb diet instead of avoiding it. Do not stick to any fad diet plans. This will only distort your health.

  • Consuming Fat leads to weight gain
  • Some are still scared of consuming fats because they believe it to cause weight gain. Yes, they do help in weight gain and even loss, when consumed in the right proportions. Not consuming at all, is a  myth. In fact fats help in lowering cholesterol, absorb vital nutrients, and also store energy.

  • You must not eat anything after 6 pm
  • This is something people think is true till date. Is it really true? The answer is NO. It’s true that late night snacking is not good for health but that doesn’t mean you mustn’t eat anything. Light snacking is preferred, for example salads.  You can consume smaller calories to fill in.

  • Be skinny to look healthy
  • This age-old belief is still considered as true. Being skinny always doesn't mean you are healthy. A skinny person might look healthier physically, but the individual might be suffering from malnutrition issues or any other issues. It’s not being skinny or fat, but being healthy inside out is what matters. So be healthy to look healthy!

  • All type of juices are healthy
  • Certain people think that all juices are healthy. But the answer is NO. Fruits or vegetables should be consumed in their best form. A fruit should never be consumed as a juice because the juice will lack fiber and all the benefits of the fruit will be lost. Vegetables when consumed as a juice is healthier than its whole form.

  • Probiotics works best for all
  • Probiotics are nowadays the most popular supplement consumed. But certain research has shown that probiotics don't actually work the same for all. Sometimes consuming probiotics may lead to negative effects in the gut microbes. Probiotics are really a good supplement. You must personalize and consume it according to your dietary requirements.

  • Snacking is so bad!
  • NOT at all! Snacking when done healthily does matter. You can add small snacking meals in between your larger meals. You can include dates, nuts like cashews, almonds, walnuts etc. Seeds like melon seeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds etc also contain good nutritional elements. Eating smaller meals in between is a good way of diet to keep yourselves full and you won’t skip to a larger meal later. Snacking is also a form of relieving your stress.

With the evolution of the internet, it's hard to keep up with the facts and myths. But we mustn’t get lost in the falsified information. Keep on researching till you understand the facts. Now, you don’t have to get confused as to what healthy options you should choose. At Ajfan,we have the best and healthy snacks and nutritional products for your health. Acacia Honey (100% Pure), Ajfan Mamra Almonds , Brazilian Nut, Medjoul Jordan Premium Dates etc are some of the popular nutritional options chosen by our customers.
